Best Friends: EPA & Climate Savers
Looks like the EPA wasn't kidding when it said that it was taking aim at PCs and data centers. Today Climate Savers sent word that they are teaming up with the EPA "to promote the adoption of energy-efficient PCs and servers and the use of power management to enterprises and consumers."As per the partnership, Energy Star becomes Climate Savers' baseline, a good place to start when scoping out energy efficient gear. Climate Savers is also participating in the Energy Star Low Carbon IT Campaign which also went live today.
Low Carbon IT is an effort to get businesses to use those sleep or low-power settings. Or as the EPA says:
If all office computers and monitors in the United States were set to sleep when not being used, the country could save more than 44 billion kWh or $4 billion worth of electricity and avoid the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of about 5 million cars each year.Run, don't walk, to Start --> Control Panel --> Power Options. Mac users, to System Preferences posthaste!
