Splish Slash: IBM Crunches Numbers, Heats Pool
You have to hand it to IBM for coming up with some novel ways to recycle waste heat.
The lucky swimmers just outside of Zurich in Uitikon will soon never have to worry that the water is too cold for a dip thanks to a nearby GIB-Services data center located in a former military bunker (+1 for even more recycling). IBM came up with a novel solution to redirect 2,800 megawatts of wasted heat per year.
In a press release, IBM explains:
Thanks Dan!

IBM came up with a novel solution to redirect 2,800 megawatts of wasted heat per year.
In a press release, IBM explains:
Located in Uitikon, Switzerland, the data center is expected to create 2,800 megawatts of wasted heat per year when operating at full capacity -- the same amount of energy needed to supply up to 80 houses with heating and warm water for one year. In order to repurpose some of this previously wasted energy, the town is looking to the needs of local civilians -- ensuring a comfortable temperature for swimming in the town pool.If you've ever inadvertently cannonballed into a frigid pool, you'd want one of these data centers nearby too.
Thanks Dan!
